We interviewed Jestin about his time at camp. Here is what he had to say about his experience:
RAGF: What was the name of the session of camp you attended? Jestin: Outdoor Avengers at Stone Canyon RAGF: What did you imagine it was going to be like? Jestin: I Imagined I would have spent more time outside. RAGF: Was it what you imagined it would be? Jestin: Camp was a lot of fun and I made lots of friends. We did not do as much outdoor activities as planned due to rainy conditions. RAGF: Were you nervous to go to this camp? If so, what part of it made you the most nervous? Jestin: Yes I was a little nervous because I was so far away from home, But I am so glad I did it. RAGF: What were some of the activities that you did at camp? Jestin: Color wars with zip line, camp fires, hiking, archery, learned how to build different kinds a fires like tepee and log cabin fires, I learned about edible plants and I ate dandelions and thistles to name a few and they both taste like sunflower seeds, played camouflage hide and seek, swam a lake, participated during sunrise warriors every morning which was a non mandatory exercise each morning which included running, stretching, jumping jacks, squats, burpies, and planks. I participated in a talent show which was acting out a play about mimicking with my cabin mates and counselors, enjoyed a carnival on camp grounds, gaga ball, and learned several card games. RAGF: What was your favorite activity? Jestin: Learning new cards games and zip lining RAGF: What were your sleeping conditions like? Jestin: We slept in a cabin with bunk bed with 8 other people. some what comfortable, except for one of the nights when we were suppose to sleep in a tent outside but because a large amount of rain, we had to sleep in a tent inside a big building on the cement. It was very hard. RAGF: What did you eat at camp? Jestin: Cafeteria RAGF: Did you prepare any of your own meals? Jestin: No RAGF: What was a typical day like? Jestin: Wake up at 6:45 for sunrise warriors, back to our cabins for about 30 minutes. Go to Flag in front of cafeteria, which was, each cabin made up their own flag we took turns each day presenting the flags made.Then off to breakfast!! Then we went to our lead sessions which included team bonding and learning leadership with our age group for about 2 hrs. Then we went to our "clubs" which is where I learned about the wilderness, about 1 hour each day. Went to lunch!! Siesta/Nap time for about 1 hr. Then we had free time which included game playing, going the the gift shop or just hanging out with friends. Then we went to 2 sessions of activities which were different each day, some included dodge ball, gaga ball, ware wolf, zip lining and archery. Then we went to cafeteria for supper!!! During supper each night we were given a hint to solve a week long scavengers hunt. Then we went back to our cabin, showered, brushed teeth and by 10 o'clock lights were out. The 1st and last nights we had a camp fire. RAGF: Did you learn any new skills? If so, what were they? Jestin: Yes, building fires, archery, shelter building, knowledge about different edible plants that you can survive on, using a compass. RAGF: How many other campers were there? Jestin: In club, maybe 20? at all whole maybe 70? RAGF: Where were the other campers from? Jestin: Most of them were from Colorado. I was the only one from Nebraska! :) RAGF: How many counselors were there? Jestin: About 20 RAGF: What was your favorite thing about the camp? Jestin: Making friends and the variety of activities they had for us. RAGF: What was your least favorite thing? Jestin: Sleeping on the hard cement that one night RAGF: Would you do it again? Jestin: YES!!!!! RAGF: Do you think other kids in your school would enjoy this camp? Jestin: Yes, Very much!!
